ANITA PELOQUIN NAMED VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH BY THE COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP
MARCH 2013

 

At the March 19th meeting, Anita Peloquin was voted as the Volunteer of the Month for March honoring her for special service to the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop organization.  Peloquin has been a valuable member who is always working in the background to assure the organization run smoothly and steps up to help on numerous projects. She is on the Board of Directors, has been head of the nominating committee, keeps records of monthly meetings, assists the summer treasurer, as well as being one of the “Wednesday girls” working in the shop.  In addition, she has scheduled and hosted our biannual luncheons.

 

We are proud to honor Peloquin this month, appreciate her smiling good humor, the  sharing of her special skills, and the many years of volunteering with us.

DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP NAMES PEG HYDES AS VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FEBRUARY 2013
 

Peggy Hydes was selected as Volunteer of the Month by the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop.  Hydes joined our group about 2 years ago and although is only with us as a seasonal volunteer, has proved to be a valuable asset with her sense of merchandising and artist talent.  She has often spent extra hours at the shop rearranging various sections in addition to her three hour weekly stint behind the counter.  As co-chairman of the organizing committee, many of her ideas have been incorporated into displays and best use of our space.  Hydes has also created a following that come into the shop to purchase her small, charming hand-painted boxes and note cards.  We are delighted to name her February Volunteer of the Month.

BETTY TILLEY-POOLE IS NAMED JUNE’S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH BY
THE DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP

 

Betty Poole was presented Volunteer of the Month certificate of excellence June 19th by the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop.  Poole moved here from Rhode Island about two years ago, became a member of the Thrift Shop volunteers soon after arrival and has become one of our most active. Poole offered her tech services to help bring us into the 21st century by creating a web site, www.dunnellonthriftshop.org which showcases the Thrift Shop’s community donations, goals, officers and members, as well as activities.  In addition to the many hours she spends updating web site photographs, current donations and text, she is head of the Publicity Committee to help reach out to the community.  When not involved with these activities, she’s stripping and painting shelving units, re-arranging merchandise or moving out-of-season items to storage units at her home. 


In addition to volunteering at the Thrift Shop, Poole is known nationwide for breeding, showing, and judging Pekingese. 
 

Poole’s creative ideas and “can do” attitude are an inspiration to all our members and it is an honor to present her  this well deserved award as our Volunteer of the Month.

SUE PLUMMER RECEPIENT OF MAY’S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH BY
THE DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP MAY 2012

 

Sue Plummer, long time winter Dunnellon resident, was presented a certificate of excellence May 15th by the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop for her dedication to the shop’s goals and for sharing so graciously of her talents.  Her artistic work can be seen on the red bench which graces our front porch, the yellow back door flower scenes, and several signs displayed throughout the shop.  In addition, Plummer is a extraordinary talented seamstress who measures and prices fabric and notions, sews many items for the shop, paints and makes covers for numerous chairs and stools.  She’s also the one we count on to check out donated sewing machines to be sure they’re in working order before putting them up for sale.

 

Plummer has been actively involved in the “Dresses and Britches for African Children” project and when she returns to Michigan for the summer, volunteers at a thrift shop there.  She’s been an active member of our organization for over ten years and it’s our pleasure to honor her as our Volunteer of the Month.

 CAROL PRIOR HONORED AS DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP’S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH APRIL 2012

 

Carol Prior was presented a certificate of excellence April 17th to honor her as the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop’s Volunteer of the Month.  Prior has been spending winters in Dunnellon the past ten years, returning to Maine the remainder of the year.  Although volunteering with us just over a year, she has quickly become one of our most active members taking on numerous projects in addition to working at the shop once a week.   

Prior’s organizing skills were put to use immediately helping us move into our new Historic District location.  She has given her time, energy, and expertise with smiling exuberance as she redesigned shop displays, located and hung sun shades, brought in neighborhoods’ left over yard sale items, donated her original framed photographs and home grown plants for an elementary school auction, and undertook a major project building custom bookcases for the shop.  These are only a few ways she’s helped us become the shop we are today.  Prior’s a strong believer in recycling to benefit those in need and feels the Thrift Shop does this for the Dunnellon Community. 

She will also be volunteering in a Newcastle thrift store when she returns to Maine for the summer.  It is our pleasure to honor Carol Prior as our Volunteer of the Month for the extraordinary amount of time and effort she has given to our organization.

HELEN PARK named Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop
Volunteer of the Month March 2012

Helen Park was awarded a certificate of excellence March 20th honoring her as Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop’s Volunteer of the Month.  Park moved to Dunnellon with her husband 20 years ago after living in Jamestown, NY and Clarendon, PA.  She became a substitute at the thrift shop 18 years ago

 and has added many interesting details concerning our history and various locations of our shop. 

Park was in charge of a school district’s tax office for over 24 years which led her to be selected as Thrift Shop treasurer the past many years.

 

Park’s being honored for her years of service, her dedication to the Thrift Shop and its goals, and her willingness to share her considerable financial abilities for the benefit of the shop.  It is our pleasure to honor her as the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop’s Volunteer of the Month.

DUNNELLON THRIFT SHOP NAMES PHYLLIS KNIGHT AS
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FEBRUARY 2012

 

Phyllis Knight was awarded a certificate of appreciation and named Volunteer of the Month by the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop at their monthly meeting February 21st.

After moving to Dunnellon from Atlanta 14 years ago, Knight became an active volunteer for the thrift shop and

held the office of Vice President for a number of years.  She worked over 25 years with Macy’s Department Store

 in Atlanta, was head of women’s designer clothing which has given her an unique opportunity to assist the Community Thrift Shop with marketing and pricing. Knight is also known for encouraging many friends and

neighbors’ to donate merchandise to the shop.  She’s been a member of the “Tuesday Girls for several years indicating the day of the week she volunteers. We are proud to honor her as our February Volunteer of the

Month.

JAN SALTER HONORED AS DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP’S

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH JANUARY 2012

 

A surprised Jan Salter was presented a certificate of excellence January 17th honoring her as Dunnellon

Community Thrift Shop’s Volunteer of the Month.  Salter moved to Dunnellon with her husband after he retired

from  military service and settled into small town life after living abroad for many years. 

Salter became an active volunteer with the Community Thrift Shop approximately three years ago as one of the “Wednesday girls”, is a member of the publicity team as well as a committee chairman.

We continue to benefit from her many talents which include creative merchandising, the ability and willingness to tackle any project, her enthusiastic interaction with customers and members, and her input on selecting worthy community projects and organizations to donate our profits.

 

For the past twelve years, Salter has also been a member of the Dunnellon Friends of the Library and is currently

 an officer.  It is our pleasure to honor her as the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop’s Volunteer of the Month.

CARMEN FISHER NAMED COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER 2011 

 

The Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop presented a certificate of excellence to Carmen Fisher December 6th honoring her as Volunteer of the Month. 

Fisher, the Community Thrift Shop’s longest active member, moved to Dunnellon in 1975 and immediately became involved with the original group of women who had recently purchased Dunnellon’s first ambulance rescue vehicle from their clothes closet thrift shop profits.  Widely known for her involvement in the business community and several local organizations, she considers the Community Thrift Shop “her special baby” and is currently serving as Vice President.  Her exuberant personality, business skills, leadership and dedication to the Thrift Shop goals of selling merchandise at reasonable prices and giving profits back to the Dunnellon community make her an invaluable asset to our organization.

ELEANOR M. REX NAMED COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER 2011



The Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop presented a certificate of excellence to Eleanor M. Rex on November 15th honoring her as Volunteer of the Month.  Rex has held several positions during the past many years and currently
is Second Vice President in charge of volunteers.
  She was instrumental in assisting our non-profit organization through the corporation process in 2009 and in gaining 501(c)(3) status in 2010.  Currently she recruits and schedules our shop volunteers.  We appreciate her many hours working behind the scenes, her years of experience, and her continuing dedication to the goals of the Community Thrift Shop.

The Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop presented a certificate of excellence to Winnie Kilby
October 18th honoring her as Volunteer of the Month.  Kilby, long time resident of Dunnellon, was president of the Thrift Shop for many years and continues on the Board of Directors as well as
taking an active part as one of the thrift shop Tuesday volunteers.  We value her years of experience

MELISSA L. DUKE NAMED VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH BY

THE DUNNELLON COMMUNITY THRIFT SHOP

 

The Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop presented a certificate of excellence to Melissa L. Duke, honoring her as their first Volunteer of the Month.

 

Melissa moved to Dunnellon with her husband Jimmy, in 2006 and though still undergoing successful treatment for breast cancer, she quickly became one of the thrift shop’s “Wednesday Girls”.  Currently she volunteers both at the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop and at Annie W. Johnson’s Thrift Store.  In her spare time she works on sewing projects for Hospice of Marion County and creates dresses for African children.

 

Her energy, enthusiasm, and buoyant attitude inspire us all to give a little extra and to do it with style and good humor.  Congratulations to Melissa on becoming our first Volunteer of the Month – an honor well deserved.
